Description

The Brandenburg district town of Eberswalde is, alongside Solingen and Esslingen am Neckar, one of three German towns where trolleybuses operate in scheduled service. The system, run today by Barnimer Busgesellschaft (BBG), was opened in 1940 and is thus the oldest active trolleybus operation in Germany. Today the BBG trolleybus fleet carries around 4.2 million passengers a year. BBG is celebrating the 85th anniversary of its trolleybus service, among other things, with this faithfully detailed building brick model of a latest-generation trolleybus that entered service in 2024. The "Trollino 18 Kiepe IMC" is an 18 metre long, low-floor vehicle from the Polish manufacturer Solaris. The current collector can be lowered and raised automatically. Thanks to its "In Motion Charging" technology, the bus can charge its batteries while running under the catenary and cover journeys from the town of Eberswalde to the neighbouring municipality of Finowfurt emission-free by disconnecting from the contact wire and running the catenary-free section of the route on battery power.
